### Juice Box Geometry

Participants use geometry to determine the volume and surface area of juice boxes to determine the most efficient packaging, as well as what percentage of the volume inside actually contains juice.

### Population Growth and Biological Evolution

Making use of rice (or similar), participants will be able to model and graph exponential population growth as it doubles through several cycles, leading to discussing about overpopulation, environmental pressures and resources, carrying capacity of a given area and solutions to these problems.

### Understanding Geological Time

Using a strip of paper and a standardized scale, students will represent geologic time, including important dates in both human and the earth’s history. Children will gain an appreciation for the magnitude of geologic time as they struggle to fit all recent events into their scale. Additional exercises such as calculating percentages of earth’s history that include evidence of life, human life, dinosaurs, etc. can expand this activity.
